Give Local Midland is a 24 hour online giving campaign on May 6, 2025, for local nonprofit endowment funds, raising money for over 60 nonprofits who do incredible and inspiring work in our community.

This year, I hope to help fundraise for my personal top 3, and will include my fundraising links below.

For the first time ever, The Village of Sanford will be joining Give Local Midland to raise funds for several recreational projects that are in the works, such as the Pheonix Pump Track, the planned kayak launch at the end of Cedar Street (in Porte Park), a boat launch in the Village Ball Park, and the purchase of DNR land to turn into walking paths in cooperation with Little Forks Conservancy. Alot of these are projects I have personally helped with and contributed to, so I am excited to see the Village arriving at the stage of fundraising to launch these projects off the ground and get people opportunities to get outside and get active right in Downtown Sanford.

Next, is the Sanford Historical Society.

The Sanford Centennial Museum originated with a schoolhouse built in 1910, later expanded in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). In 1970, during the town of Sanford's centennial celebration, a historical exhibit was established in the vacant schoolhouse. The exhibit's success led to the creation of the Sanford Historical Society to manage the museum. With financial support from residents, the State of Michigan, and generous individuals such as Carl and Esther Gerstacker, the museum became a permanent fixture.#

Today, the museum complex encompasses ten buildings, maintained in part through our Endowment Fund in collaboration with the Midland Area Community Foundation (MACF). Ongoing donations from our supportive community enable them to preserve and enhance the museum for current and future generations to enjoy.

This year, their goal is to raise $5,000 to restore the exterior of our Chesapeake and Ohio Railway boxcar.

Last year, they successfully restored the exterior of our 1941 railway caboose, which you can read about on their website: Caboose Restoration Project. They aim to bring the same care and dedication to the restoration of our boxcar.

Next is Midland's Open Door.

In 2024 alone, Open Door served over 50,000 meals and provided over 12,000 nights of shelter to the hungry and the homeless-and yes, we have plenty of them in Midland. But the work is never over. They need your help to continue offering real help and lasting hope to our neighbors in need in 2025.

I have been in admiration of this organization for a long time, but, my dear old friend Ashley (also known as Chef Ash), joined the organization as their chef, and knowing her passion for her work there and the mission it accomplishes definitely brings it closer to my heart.

This month, Chef Ash turns 40! So, for her birthday, can we all contribute a few dollars to Open Door, so we can double their money with some matching funds? You may do so here: Teresa Quintana's Fundraiser Profile | Give Local Midland

....and remember, no donation is too small!

In addition to these, there are SO many wonderful organizations fundraising during Give Local- from the Humane Society to Habitat for Humanity, Riverdays, both Midland and Sanford's Santa Houses, Adoption Option, Cancer Services, Home to Stay, Little Forks Conservancy.... Give Local is a great day to DOUBLE your DOLLAR and GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE!!
